RKI counts 78,022 new infections, the highest incidence since the beginning of the pandemic

Another record: The seven-day incidence jumps to 497.1, the highest since the outbreak of the pandemic. In addition, the Robert Koch Institute counts more than 78,000 new infections and 235 new deaths.
The incidence of new corona infections in Germany has again reached a new high. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the nationwide seven-day incidence in the morning at 497.1. The previous maximum of 470.6 new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one week was reported on Friday. On Saturday last week, the seven-day incidence was 335.9. The RKI gave the number of detected new corona infections on Saturday as 78,022. The day before, a new nationwide daily high was reached with 92,223 cases. As the RKI further announced, citing data from the health authorities, 235 new deaths related to the corona virus were counted on Saturday. According to the latest information from the institute, the health authorities have recorded a total of 7,913,473 cases of infection since the beginning of the pandemic. The total number of registered corona deaths in Germany is now 115,572. The RKI puts the number of people in Germany who have recovered from an illness caused by the coronavirus at around 6,942,400. Note: The figures from the RKI usually differ slightly from the case data that ntv.de reports daily in the evening. The ntv.de data team directly accesses the registration numbers from the federal states as published by the local ministries and authorities. The RKI, on the other hand, is bound to the legally prescribed reporting channels, which can lead to a delay. In addition, the respective daily values reflect different recording periods: the ntv evaluation collects the country information published up to the evening and uses this to calculate a daily status of the reported number of cases, which is usually published from 8 p.m. The RKI’s recording system, on the other hand, takes into account incoming reports up to midnight, with the current data status being announced the following morning.
