Nvidia unexpectedly stops production

January 15th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. by Valentin Sattler – According to reports on the Internet, Nvidia has asked the board partners to pause production of the upcoming flagship graphics card Geforce RTX 3090 Ti at short notice and apparently indefinitely. Shortly before launch, that would be highly unusual. Nvidia’s new flagship, the Geforce RTX 3090 Ti, is apparently struggling with problems. According to Videocardz, the graphics card should have been announced this week, but the embargo was apparently extended at short notice. The next date would be January 27th, when the RTX 3090 Ti is supposed to appear. But that could also turn out differently, because according to the Tweaktown website, Nvidia ordered a production stop at short notice.

Problems with hardware and software?

With reference to an industry source, it is reported that Nvidia has asked the board partners to pause production of the Geforce RTX 3090 Ti. There is no information from Tweaktown on the reason or the planned time frame for the production stop, only speculation about problems with the production. Since the Geforce RTX 3090 Ti uses the GA102, which has been in production for a long time, that would be very unusual. Videocardz’s justification appears more realistic here, which can confirm and supplement the report with reference to their own sources. Accordingly, the Geforce RTX 3090 Ti currently has problems with both the BIOS and the hardware. The latter is of course quite broad, but the PCB is more likely to be affected than the GPU RTX 3090. At that time there were reports of operational instabilities caused by different capacitor configurations behind the GPU. If Nvidia has now discovered a comparable problem with the Geforce RTX 3090 Ti, the board partners would have to check their PCB designs and adjust them if necessary before the launch. Unfortunately, it is currently difficult to say whether this is really the case. You have to wait for more rumors here, because there will probably be no official details about problems before the launch. Source: Tweaktown / Videocardz Supports PCGH – it only takes a minute.
