Rare corona symptom

A 35-year-old man was taken to a Berlin hospital after several fainting spells. The patient reported recurring seizures that occur whenever he sits up from a lying position. The day before he had had a fever episode, otherwise no symptoms. At first it was puzzling what caused the fainting, but then doctors found the origin: Corona! As the “√Ąrztezeitung” reports, numerous studies have shown that a corona disease had triggered the fainting spells (syncope). They are considered an extremely rare Covid symptom.

Fainting as an early warning sign for Covid

37 corona studies with a total of 14,438 patients from 2021 have also shown that fainting is not often associated with corona, but can occur and in rare cases can also be the main symptom. This is also what Focus Online reports. The studies found that 4.2 percent of those infected in the early stages of the corona virus experienced fainting or a feeling of impending unconsciousness. This particularly affected older people over 60 years of age.
It is important that fainting is not a typical corona symptom, but should only be taken as a sign in the early stages of the infection. According to the studies, fainting occurs about three days before a positive test. It is therefore a warning sign of an approaching infection and at best enables an early diagnosis. (lgr)
