Data: Corona case numbers for NRW
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the health authorities in NRW have counted 17,815 new infections in the last 24 hours. That is 6,308 more cases than were reported last Saturday, when the RKI recorded 11,507 new infections. At the same time, 21 new deaths were reported, and the RKI recorded 5,242 other Covid patients as having recovered. In the past seven days, a total of 84,288 new cases have been reported to the RKI in NRW. 470.2 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants were known in the past week. Even lower numbers were recorded in the previous week, when the RKI reported 64,655 new infections within seven days, which corresponds to an incidence of 360.7. The medium-term trend in NRW is therefore negative, the number of corona cases is increasing again. The current data was published by the RKI on Saturday morning – as of January 15th, 2022 at 03:24. Later adjustments or additions to the RKI are possible. The daily updated figures are subject to strong fluctuations. For example, because fewer tests are carried out at the weekend or there may be delays in the reporting chain. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, a total of 1,539,512 people in NRW have been proven to be infected with the corona virus, so far the authorities have recorded 20,743 deaths in connection with Covid 19 disease. However, the Robert Koch Institute also estimates that 1,365,095 corona patients have recovered. According to the current status, an estimated 153,674 people are still actively infected with Covid-19, an increase of 12,552 active cases compared to the previous day. The number is made up of the estimated number of recoveries and the confirmed number of deaths and cases.
Data: Tests and vaccinations in NRW
Since the end of December 2020, vaccinations have been used to fight the corona virus in NRW. To date, around 14.1 million people have received a first dose of one of the approved vaccines. Compared to the report of the lecture, the RKI counted 8,636 new initial vaccinations. So far, 78.81 percent of all people in NRW have been vaccinated at least once. For complete protection against the virus, an additional dose or even a third vaccination is currently required for almost all permitted vaccines. In North Rhine-Westphalia, around 13.54 million people are considered “completely protected” by their second vaccination. Compared to the previous day, 18,749 more second vaccinations were recorded by the RKI. The rate of people with “complete vaccination protection” in the country is 75.52 percent.
However, it is now known that the vaccination protection of the previously permitted vaccines decreases after five to six months. That is why the so-called “booster” vaccination has been widely available since autumn 2021. They are intended to refresh the vaccination protection. So far, 8.69 million people have received such a boost – that’s 64.2 percent of all people counted as “fully vaccinated” so far. Compared to the previous day, 110,377 more booster vaccinations were recorded by the RKI. At the same time, testing for the virus continues in NRW. The number of weekly tests in the laboratories was 367.40 thousand in calendar week 53. Of these, 76,052 were recently evaluated as positive, a rate of 20.7 percent. This is also evident from data from the RKI. Compared to the previous week, more people tested positive for the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus. The rate was previously 19 percent, and 42,478 of 223.57 thousand tests were positive at the time.
Data: Heavily affected regions in NRW
The area most affected in NRW is Wuppertal. There have been 735.2 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days. The region with the fewest infections is Recklinghausen, where the incidence is 252.9. At least one new infection has been reported in all cities and districts in the country in the past seven days.
Data: hospitalization values and situation in the intensive care units in NRW
The situation in hospitals has been an important indicator for assessing the pandemic since autumn 2021. In the past seven days, 582 people with a Covid infection have been hospitalized in NRW. The so-called hospitalization rate – the number of patients per 100,000 inhabitants of a region within a week – is currently 3.25. With a 5 percent increase in cases compared to the value of the previous week, the trend in hospitalization numbers is negative. In the clinics in NRW, 435 Covid patients are currently being treated in the intensive care unit, 267 of them have to be ventilated. A total of 924 of 5,056 intensive care beds are currently still available in the country’s hospitals.

About this text Data source and transparency note In Germany, the Robert Koch Institute is the nationwide collection point for information on all confirmed infections with the corona virus. The data is only updated once a day, always early in the morning, and records the electronically transmitted figures from the federal states. They reflect the registration status from the evening of the previous day. The information from the Robert Koch Institute and the local authorities therefore differ in how up-to-date they are, so that there may be discrepancies. This text was automatically generated based on the RKI data and is automatically updated every morning. Is there a mistake? Mail us.
