Jsk Automotive Explains the Working of Continuously Variable Transmission

For all those car enthusiasts who have just bought a car or are looking for a car recently, might have witnessed late or older car models being equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission, commonly abbreviated as CVT. Most of us have heard of the term when we are out and about to buy a new scooter or an automatic transmission car.CVT is one of the forms of automatic transmission on two-wheelers as well as in four-wheelers. It is the type of automatic transmission that is employed by automakers to improve fuel economy. You’ll be amazed to know this fact, that it was an Italian Renaissance polymath and artist, Leonardo Da Vinci, who curated the first ever draft and sketch of the initial model of the CVT in 1490. But it was in year 1950s when the first ever car with a CVT was rolled out, which was the DAF cars and the technology was fully rolled out through cars and gearless scooters from 2000s. The director of the largest Wholesalers of Hyundai Car Parts, Jsk Automotive talks about the working of a Continuously Variable Transmission. He says, “First, it is important to understand what a Continuously Variable Transmission is. To explain you in brief, it is a transmission that functions on a complex pulley-system that automatically shits the transmission ratio, allowing an infinite flexibility between highest and lowest gears with no prominent shifts.”
Moving further he explains the working of the Continuously Variable Transmission, “How a normal automatic gearbox works? A normal automatic gearbox uses gears to match the engine speed to the speed of the road. When the vehicle is running at a low speed, it turns a smaller gear which is connected to the larger gear that turns the drive wheels with the help of numerous transmission components. With every turn or change in small gear, the change in bigger gear is insignificant. The opposite is the case with high speed when the car is running at a high speed; the engine now turns the larger gear which is connected to the smaller gear. With every revolution in larger gear, the smaller gear turns multiple times.”
He further explains, “Talking about the working mechanism of CVT, this mechanism doesn’t require gears. Instead, this transmission uses two pulleys which are connected by a belt. The engine only uses one pulley and the other one is connected to all the components of a transmission all the way to the wheels. The catch is that the pulleys in CVT can change from small to large when there is a shift in gears. When the engine is in first gear, the engine pulley will be small in size and the other one will be large. When the vehicle picks up speed, the pulley connected to the engine will shrink in size while the other one will gradually reduce in size, while you are shifting gears all the time. “Concluding this he says, the real benefit of this technology is that the engine can go directly to the desired rpm value that delivers the most efficiency and fuel economy ...
